PEDAGOGY WORKSHOP

CO-CREATING THE FUTURE THROUGH SOCIALLY-DIRECTED SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Station1 (Lawrence, Massachusetts)

Thursday January 23rd (evening) - 26th (Sunday), 2020

This three-day interactive, collaborative pedagogy workshop welcomes educators (i.e. instructors, faculty, and post-doctoral associates) from across STEM disciplines, humanities, and social sciences to learn, share, reflect, and co-create pedagogy at the intersection of inclusion, inquiry, and impact. Hosted at Station1’s unique inclusive active learning space, this program is built around leading pedagogical frameworks, approaches, tools, and assessment methods for socially-directed STEM inquiry. Throughout the workshop participants will develop plans for their own integrated course modules, and build community with like-minded educators dedicated to leading curricular and pedagogical reform in the teaching of science and technology topics.

The workshop will take place on January 23rd, 2020 (Thursday evening event, 6pm-8pm) and January 24th (Friday), January 25th (Saturday), January 26th (Sunday), 2020 from 10am-5pm in Lawrence, Massachusetts (accessible by MBTA commuter rail).  Participants are asked to be present for the duration of the workshop as the structure will be collaborative and iterative. The workshop participation fee ($110) includes instructional materials, lunch, and dinner.

This workshop will engage educators who are involved in college level teaching from across disciplines related to science and technology themes broadly defined. Participants from community colleges, minority-serving institutions, liberal arts colleges, baccalaureate institutions, and public institutions are particularly welcome. While educators of all ranks are expected to participate, this workshop is an excellent opportunity for postdoctoral researchers aiming to develop their teaching philosophy and advance their pedagogical knowledge in preparation for academic positions.
