We are so excited that the inaugural cohort of Summer@Station1 college students will soon arrive from near and far to Massachusetts. For the first four days of Summer@Station1 (June 9th - 12th, 2018), Station1 students will participate in a transformative, immersive four-day educational experience, in partnership with LeaderShape®, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating a just, caring, and thriving world where all lead with integrity and a healthy disregard for the impossible.

The Summer@Station1 orientation will include the pioneering, nationally recognized LeaderShape® Institute™ curriculum integrated with custom curricular components developed by Station1. The Summer@Station1 orientation provides a strong foundation for students to build on and integrate with the students' frontier science and technology research and development internship projects and the Summer@Station1 full curriculum on socially-directed science and technology research.

The LeaderShape® Institute™ challenges participants to lead with integrity™ while working towards a vision grounded in their deepest values. Participants explore not only what they want to do, but who they want to be. Dynamic, challenging, and exciting, the The LeaderShape® Institute™ is intended to produce a breakthrough in the leadership capacity of participants — benefiting them individually, as well as their respective communities and the organizations they will go on to lead and serve in the future.

The curriculum takes students on a journey of self-discovery and leadership that includes identification of passions and values, development of a powerful vision, commitment to integrity, and the creation of a tangible Breakthrough Blueprint which serves as a foundation for action. Weaved throughout the LeaderShape® Institute™ is inclusive leadership, including, for example, cultural awareness, identity work, and exploration of dynamics of power and influence. Read more here about the positive impact of LeaderShape® on the lives of students.

Station1 will be offering integrated sessions that focus on foundational concepts and frameworks which will serve as a bridge to their science and technology research and development internship projects and the Station1 full curriculum. A key topic to be discussed and recognized nationally as an area of importance to STEM is mentoring in research environments. Students at Station1 will have the opportunity to both mentor others and to be mentored during Summer@Station1. They will learn about the science of mentoring and evidence-based frameworks for optimizing mentoring relationships, constructing and cultivating mentoring networks, and fostering inclusive mentoring. Participatory activities and dialogue will be carried out around science and technology-focused workplace structures and cultures.

The Summer@Station1 orientation will take place in the beautiful Station1 learning space at Riverwalk in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Read more about the inclusive design of the Station1 learning space
